For our customer a big pharmaceutical company in Basel we are looking for a highly Animal Model Lab Manager.

This position is located in the Research Department of the Neuroscience and Rare Disease (NRD) therapeutic area, where the primary focus is to identify and develop new therapeutics for some of the most challenging neurological disorders. Our department works closely with our Therapeutic Modalities and Pharmaceutical Sciences and key support functions, including Business Finance and Operations, to convert hypotheses into innovative therapeutics for brain disorders across the lifespan. We are offering an outstanding opportunity for an Animal Model Lab Manager, whose primary focus will be to support the NRD Research Department with access to genetically engineered rodent models to enable our research and therapy development.

The perfect candidate:
has a deep knowledge of animal model colony management, understanding of the use of rodent models in neuroscience drug discovery, and exceptional operational capabilities, they will accelerate our drug discovery efforts in NRD and ensure excellence in animal welfare. The candidate will have tremendous resources and capabilities, and be surrounded by world-class scientists and drug hunters in a state-of-the-art new building located at the pRED center in Basel.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
* Being the single point of contact for access to genetically engineered rodent models in NRD, serving as an interface between internal research needs and external collaborators supplying rodent models.
* Supporting scientists in identifying and in-licensing the optimal rodent model(s) to achieve their research needs.
* Working effectively with multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely access to new rodent models, whilst ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare.
* Bringing understanding in rodent colony management, and are able to anticipate challenges and opportunities as they arise.
* Bringing knowledge of in vivo experimentation in neuroscience to further inform new animal model sourcing, optimal breeding strategies and resource coordination.
* Being comfortable working with digital tools and dashboards to facilitate work processes.
* Supporting laboratory and regulatory activities for in vivo experimentation in the department and will work as part of a broader Lab Manager community in pRED to ensure best practice in our work culture.

Must Haves:
* Min. Master, PhD in Neuroscience preclinical experimentation or a closely related scientific field
* A minimum of 5 years experience in rodent colony management
* Familiarity with animal care and welfare guidelines and have demonstrated experience of working within a regulated environment
* Demonstrating excellence in Operations, with strong attention to detail and the ability to establish processes that are fit-for-purpose, transparent and efficient
* Being able to carefully plan, establish timelines, budgets, and ensure that deliverables are met.
* Thriving when multitasking, and are able to simultaneously manage internal and external stakeholders with competing needs and priorities.
* Be passionate about supporting others, and take time to listen carefully to requests, and seek feedback on your performance.
* Proactively look for new opportunities to collaborate, expand your impact and develop your skills.
* Working in a multicultural environment motivates you.
* Fluent in English (oral and written).
* Familiarity with managing projects, working in a cross matrix team environment, project management planning tools.
