This position is located in Lead Discovery, a department within the Therapeutic Modalities function, where the discovery of chemical starting points for further optimization in medicinal chemistry is a primary focus. We closely collaborate with our therapeutic areas and functions to convert hypotheses into innovative therapeutics.

We are offering a unique opportunity to join our team in the Innovation Center Basel as Associate/Scientist Protein Science in cell technologies and protein purification. This position is located in Lead Discovery, a department within the Therapeutic Modalities function, where the discovery of chemical starting points for further optimization in medicinal chemistry is a primary focus. We closely collaborate with our therapeutic areas and functions to convert hypotheses into innovative therapeutics.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
* You are working on Protein Science aspects throughout the process from gene to protein with a particular focus on protein production in insect cell expression systems.
* Implement suitable methods to determine baculovirus concentrations as well as gene delivery efficiencies (e.g. qPCR, flow cytometry)
* As an individual contributor in a matrix organization, you are lab-based and establish a robust and efficient insect cell expression platform across various scales
* Adapt automated small-scale expression and purification workflows to insect cell expression systems for high throughput protein production.
* You use your interest in lab automation to contribute to the continuous optimization of the established workflows from cell culture to protein analytics and data handling.

Must Haves:
* Apprenticeship or University Degree (Bachelor, Master, PhD) in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or similar with superior experience in state of the art recombinant protein expression systems, expression yield optimisation and accompanying cell culture techniques
* Min. 3 years hands-on expertise in wet-lab work and in recombinant protein expression systems (insect and/or mammalian systems)
* Knowledge in all major protein purification methodologies as well as protein-based experimental methods
* Good IT skills MS Office, Google Suite
* Very good English orally and written is a must, German is a plus
* Efficient communicator with an aptitude for continuous learning, a solution-seeker with a sense of urgency to drive projects forward
