Data Engineer / Data Scientist (f/m/d) – Data Warehouse / R / SQL / Spotfire / English

For our customer a big pharmaceutical company in Basel we are looking for a highly qualified Data Engineer / Data Scientist.

Background:
The focus of Oncology Operations is to support our Disease Therapeutic Area (DTA) organization and their leaders towards the successful delivery of the drug portfolio from target assessment to completion of early clinical development. For this, we are seeking a Data Engineer / Data Scientist who will work closely with selected scientific and business workstream teams and their leaders to conceptualize, design and implement efficient systems for operational data management and analysis, fostering crossfunctional collaboration and delivery of the assigned goals. Hands-on experience in data engineering, data science and data visualization is essential.

The perfect candidate:
The role is open due to high workload and further support within the team needed. The ideal candidate brings a background with data management / data science and has already work experience within this area. The knowledge of using business intelligence and visualization tools is important as well as hands-on experience is needed for this role.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
* Provide professional data engineer and data scientist support to the Systems and Strategic data home in Oncology Operations; in particular:
– Building on an existing Enterprise Data Warehouse (Oracle and Snowflake-based), design, test and implement a coherent data management set-up for workforce, capability and opportunity management to foster transparency and collaboration and improve efficiency of business operations
– Build data pipelines to join, integrate and analyze data from different existing sources and systems
– Generate business insights and visualize results in static reports and dynamic dashboards (e.g. via R / Shiny) – In close collaboration with data and system owners, work towards reducing data redundancies, increasing F.A.I.R.ness of the data and create a positive end user experience
– Act as a strategic thought partner to the systems & strategic data home lead
– Keep track of timelines and deliverables on the assigned scope and remit
– Foster a collaborative team environment
– Collaborate with data and software engineering and product development teams

* Contribute to workstream activities to enhance the collaboration across the DTA, in particular to substream activities on:
– Design and development of an Oncology Information Hub as a central data and information management platform
– Increase efficiency and collaboration by aligning data systems with business goals – Implement a catalog of workstream activities with DTA involvement to provide transparency and enable prioritization

* The position has a unique ability to impact the current and future success of the pRED Oncology DTA

Must Haves:
– Min. Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Informatics, life sciences or similar field
– Minimum of 3 years‘ experience as a data engineer and/or data scientist
– Advanced knowledge of SQL, R and/or Python
– Proficient experience using business intelligence and visualization tools (e.g. Spotfire, Tableau, Shiny)
– Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply data science to a company’s business needs
– Thorough understanding of data management, standards, integrity and reproducibility aspects
– Strong communication and organizational skills, proactive working style with ability to structure, drive implementation and manage change
– Ability to work with senior leaders, to challenge assumptions and step outside traditional thinking
– Effective in collaborating with internal and/or external collaborators
– Ability to work efficiently, independently and flexibly in a collaborative and inclusive manner
– Dedicated to establishing a culture of mutual support, cross-training, continuous learning and self-organization to meet project and functional goals
– Fluent in English, German is a plus

Nice to have:
– Data engineering certification (e.g IBM Certified Data Engineer) is a plus

– Experience in leading cross functional project teams in a matrix organization ideally in pharmaceutical industry is a plus

– familiarity with Oracle and Snowflake is a plus
