R&D Scientist (f/m/d)– protein production /HTS-Scale cell / synthetic biology / Cell biology /gene cloning / hands-on

For our customer Roche Glycart based in Zürich / Schlieren we are looking for a highly qualified Business Operations Manager (M/F/D).

Background:

As part of the Roche Pharma Research and Early Development organization, Molecular & Cell Technologies department is dedicated to the research and development of potential new therapeutic candidates in early drug discovery.
We focus on the support of portfolio projects during early, pre-clinical development of potential new therapeutic candidates by designing molecules, engineering tools and supplying molecules and tools. That covers the generation of antibody and antigen expression constructs, optimized expression vectors for antigen supply, antibody format conversion, designing and engineering of recombinant cell lines and protein production at different scales.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled cell engineering scientist to help develop new tailored solutions and enhance our protein production platform. The scientist will work with a cross-disciplinary team and provide technical leadership on designing, developing, and testing cellular systems and production processes including parameter optimization, characterization and implementation.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Design, build, and test new technologies and protocols to enhance the production of a variety of protein types, including therapeutic antibodies, in mammalian expression systems.
Develop novel cell engineering strategies to enhance the function and performance of host cell lines.
● Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide technical expertise and contribute to the development of early discovery programs.
● Evaluate laboratory processes and continue to identify and validate process improvements.
● Evaluate experiment results in an accurate, timely manner and recognize and report relevant test results.
● Use independent judgment and knowledge to resolve highly complex problems.
● Responsible for authoring technical reports and documentation.
● Keep abreast of trends in the field by reading professional journals and attending relevant meetings and seminars.
● Mentor and supervise junior researchers.
● Maintain excellent communication with all staff and other departments to ensure a supporting team of professionals.

Must Haves:

PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field with a focus on cell engineering
● Min. 2-3+ years experience in molecular biology techniques such as gene cloning, editing and recombination technologies
● Extensive hands-on mammalian cell culture expertise with immortalized cells
● Expertise in methods to alter cellular physiology to enhance protein production
● Demonstrated hands-on experience with various transgene delivery systems
● Fluency in English (verbal and written)
● Ability to work independently and in a team environment
● Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
● Independence in driving research activities, including the design, execution, and analysis of experiments
● Working knowledge of protein production, HTS-scale cell culture and cell-based tool generation
● Strong record of collaboration and cooperation in cross-disciplinary teams

Nice to Have:
* Relevant industry experience is a plus
* Prior experience with upstream operations and synthetic biology is a plus
