You will join the pharma company Institute of Translational Bioengineering (ITB), an organisation within pRED whose goal is to harness and advance the use of human model systems in drug discovery and development, as well as personalized medicine. Our interdisciplinary research bridges academic and pharmaceutical research, connecting biologists, engineers, and data scientists. We partner and collaborate with leading scientific institutions worldwide to tackle grand challenges by assembling, funding, and leading interdisciplinary teams of experts to work on highly ambitious and complex scientific questions. You will work closely with the Non-clinical Investigative Pathology team to establish and adapt innovative tissue technologies to Human model systems.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
– Support the characterization of human model systems through robust and standardized pathology workflows
– Innovation of tissue based technologies applied to human model systems
– Coordinate among the ITB teams and with the PS Pathology chapter the tasks to be done and perform pathology related experiments (tissue processing, sectioning, staining, imaging, documentation)
– Training for immunostaining for ITB scientists
– Lab work includes Embedding, sectioning, staining
– Organizing protocols
Must Haves:
– A university degree, BSc or MSc, in biology or a life science discipline or an apprenticeship in biology/medical lab environment and justify a strong understanding of cell biology, physiology, and/or tissue engineering.
– min. 1 year Experience with manual and automated pathology procedures: tissue processing (trimming, dehydration, embedding), sectioning (microtome/cryostat), clearing methods, immunostaining (histology, IHC, IF), in situ hybridization, scanning (brightfield and fluorescence), antigen retrieval
– Ability to design, test and optimize multiplex IHC/IF stainings including on challenging samples (e.g. organoids and microfluidic chip formats)
– Manual and automated quantitative image analysis (ImageJ, Imaris and/or HALO)
– proficient English level
– Excellent organization, documentation and interpersonal skills
Nice to have:
– Confocal microscopy
– Spatial phenotyping
– 3D in vitro cell culture
– Experience with histology evaluation is an asset
